From June 30 to July 10, 2025, the Summer School of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) was held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic. The program brought together specially invited students from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.
Kazakhstan was represented by talented and active students from the Theatre Arts faculty of the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after Temirbek Zhurgenov. For them, participation in the Summer School was a valuable opportunity for professional development and cultural exchange with future colleagues from neighboring countries.
The program included international creative meetings, lectures by leading theatre educators, and intensive practical workshops. Master classes in stage speech, stage movement, and acting were conducted by top GITIS instructors – Tatyana Vasilyeva, Aidar Zakirov, and Ivan Derendyaev.
The ten-day program culminated in a theatrical performance on July 9. The students presented a multilingual production based on Chingiz Aitmatov’s novella “Jamila”. Performed in Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and Russian, the play showcased the cultural diversity of the participants while underscoring the unifying power of art.
